Job Description

Teach English to adult immigrants in one-to-one or small-group sessions. Tutors do NOT need to be able to speak another language to be an effective instructor. Tutor training and excellent teaching materials with lesson plans are provided. Tutors teach either online or in person for a minimum of two hours per week.

Literacy Together English learners are eager to learn the language to improve their employment opportunities, participate in their children's education, prepare for the citizenship exam, and/or participate more fully in the community. The majority of students are from Spanish-speaking countries, with Russian as the second most common language among our students.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

Availability to attend ten hours of online (live or asynchronous) tutor training (paid time)
Strong English language skills
Patience to work with language learners
Culturally sensitive to immigrants and their challenges.

Preferred qualifications:

Some Spanish, Ukrainian, or Russian language skills are useful but NOT required
An interest in or experience with language learning
