Position SummaryThe Office Assistant serves as the front-facing representative of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. This position provides administrative support, assists with special projects and signature Student Affairs initiatives, and helps create a welcoming, energetic, and student-centered environment. The role combines office operations, event coordination, campus engagement, and student ambassador responsibilities, requiring professionalism, initiative, strong communication skills, and enthusiasm for representing UNC Asheville and Student Affairs. This position is ideal for a student who enjoys working with people, takes pride in staying organized, and wants to play an active role in creating a positive campus experience. Key ResponsibilitiesServe as a welcoming, professional, and enthusiastic representative of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs to students, families, faculty, staff, alumni, and campus visitors. Provide administrative support including greeting guests, scheduling events, filing, printing, copying, organizing office materials, and maintaining shared digital files. Assist with planning, coordination, setup, execution, and breakdown of Student Affairs programs, signature events, monthly Division Meetings, leadership meetings, and other campus initiatives. Serve as a lead ambassador for Bulldog Fridays, helping create an engaging and spirited campus atmosphere through event setup, student engagement, promotional activities, and giveaways. Availability on Fridays from approximately 10:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. during the academic year is required. Create employee name tags using the office's laser engraving system. No prior laser engraving experience is required; training will be provided. Create and maintain spreadsheets, organizational charts, inventories, databases, and other resources to support Student Affairs operations and special projects. Assist with communication efforts by drafting emails, creating outreach materials, and promoting Student Affairs initiatives. Gather and organize student feedback, engagement data, and other information to support Student Affairs projects and divisional initiatives. Maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive information and uphold all university policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
Work SchedulePart-time, typically 8–10 hours per week during the academic year. Hours are flexible based on office needs and class schedules; however, availability on Fridays from 10:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. is required to support Bulldog Friday programming. Learning Outcomes & BenefitsStudents in this position will: Gain hands-on experience in higher education administration. Develop professional communication, organization, and project management skills. Gain experience planning and executing campus events and large-scale meetings. Learn to operate specialized office equipment, including a laser engraving system. Build meaningful relationships with university leadership, faculty, staff, and campus partners. Strengthen customer service, leadership, and public engagement skills. Develop a greater understanding of Student Affairs operations and institutional decision-making.

Required QualificationsCurrent undergraduate student in good academic standing. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Friendly, outgoing, and comfortable interacting with a wide variety of people. Reliable, organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities. Positive attitude with enthusiasm for representing UNC Asheville and Student Affairs. Demonstrated Bulldog spirit and excitement for creating an engaging campus experience. Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team. Availability to work Fridays from approximately 10:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. during the academic year.
