Research assistant will work with Dr. Doug Miller in the Atmospheric Sciences department to compare the September 2024 and 2004 washouts of I-40 by creating a detailed time analysis of a) the passage of convective elements embedded within the two weather systems, b) periods of intense rainfall, and c) deterioration of the I-40 road surface and support systems in the Pigeon River Gorge. The research assistant will create visualizations using GIS, do basic Python programming and research available geographic data sources helpful for a study focusing on the Southern Appalachians. |
