Hiden Ramsey Library, located at the heart of UNC Asheville’s campus, is the vital center of the pursuit of knowledge at UNC Asheville - inspiring intellectual curiosity, partnering in scholarly endeavors, anticipating information and service needs, exceeding expectations and embodying the university's highest aims. The Media Design Lab & CrAFT Studio Student Technician will help in an interactive learning space where students, faculty and staff from all academic departments foster creativity, scholarship, and technological skills. Folks utilize our space to create media like podcasts, videos, infographics, websites, printed designs and more. Our student technicians will also help create and implement workshops based around the new offerings, support students, faculty, and staff using the space, and develop your own “crafting” skills. You will, in collaboration with our staff, learn and engage with new technology, facilitate our users utilizing the lab & studio space, work on exciting projects, and research new and exciting ways that scholarship and creativity intersect. In addition, student technicians will learn to use a wide range of software, from the Adobe Creative Suite to free programs. The Media Design Lab & CrAFT Studio also provides a self service Podcast Studio, available for academic and personal projects as well. You will assist with inventory control in the studio and, through learning the equipment, will help to develop a working plan of new technology to bring in to help the studio grow over time. You will be a valued member of our very close-knit crew, answering directly to the Media Design Lab Manager while working with a variety of library staff and other student workers across our building. This is an amazing position for a student interested in the intersection between creativity, scholarship, and technology; some technical experience and a willingness to learn new skills and an eye to the future of libraries is required. |

Preferred Qualifications |
Full time undergraduate status (12 hours or more per semester); Basic computer proficiency (e.g. Microsoft Office, Google Docs, etc.) is required; Basic proficiency in creative software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite, video/audio/image editing, etc.) is a required; Prior experience using our technology and equipment is a plus; willingness to learn the new systems is a must! Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Confidence to both answer questions to the best of your ability and ask for clarification and/or assistance when needed; A passion for connecting creativity, scholarship, and technology in dynamic ways; Self-motivation, willing to work as both an individual and as a part of a tight-knit team; And stellar interpersonal skills and comfort with working with the public.
