This is a unique opportunity to work with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). NCEI is the official U.S. data management entity for climatological, oceanographic, and geophysical information. Headquartered in Asheville, North Carolina, NCEI operates one of the largest environmental data and information archives on Earth. NCEI ingests, archives and disseminates data and information from the bottom of the ocean to the surface of the sun - our data users represent the breadth of society and economic sectors. NCEI promotes the scientific integrity and usefulness of its products and services based on science-based environmental data synthesis and stewardship, including informatics. NCEI will be offering up to four UNCA student internship opportunities focusing on applied climatology-, data science-, or other atmospheric science-based projects. Internships would start either mid-summer 2025 and carry into the fall, or at the beginning of the fall semester. While these positions are posted as on-campus jobs, students will work directly with NCEI staff (mentors) at NCEI in downtown Asheville, with some remote work possibe.
