Job Details

The Student Assistant to the AD should be someone who aspires to have a career in athletics administration and/or university administration.  The student assistant will be assigned special projects with an emphasis on helping to operate and maintain the Bulldog SportsFest program.   This assistant will also work in the areas of strategic and master planning, research projects, budget and finance, athletic operations, student-athlete welfare, compliance/eligibility, and other functions related to NCAA Division I and Big South Conference, etc.

The Student Assistant to the AD will be supervised by Donna Peek, Executive Assistant to the Athletics Director.   The position will be temporary from August 2024 until May 2025.  Meetings will be weekly for updates on projects, feedback, etc. with Executive Assistant Donna Peek and AD Janet Cone as needed.  The frequency of meetings will increase as the due date for projects nears completion.  Donna will also be available on an as needed basis with an open-door policy for clarification or more instruction.

Within this position, the student assistant will be required to exemplify sound reasoning.  The student assistant will need to have the capability to research and determine the value of that information for research potential and documentation.  They must also be able to utilize these facts and data into applicable projects, planning, and/or day to day operations.

The assistant must have good oral and written skills in order to communicate with various departments within the UNC Asheville system as well as other organizations such as the NCAA and the Big South Conference.  The assistant will compile reports and communication with these various groups on a continual basis.

Teamwork/Collaboration- The assistant will work with all sports including coaches and student-athletes.  He/She will also work with representatives from the NCAA and Big South Conference.
