Job Description

We are seeking reliable and customer-oriented individuals to join our team as Lifeguards with UNC Asheville’s Campus Recreation. The ideal candidates will be responsible for ensuring a safe and supportive environment for patrons within the Justice Center Pool and Campus Recreation.

Active Lifeguard Certification is required to serve in this role. If you are not certified and would like to be notified the next time Campus Recreation holds a lifeguard certification course, please email your interest to Corey Smith at csmith18@unca.edu. Please note that the Lifeguard Certification course does not teach individuals how to swim. Strong swimming ability is a prerequisite to certification.

Although this position generally reviews and hires applicants at the end of the Fall and Spring semesters, applicants may be reviewed throughout the year.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

Work together with a team of lifeguards to ensure completion of tasks and to meet safety expectations
Greet visitors, students, faculty, and staff in a friendly and professional manner
Monitor pool access and eligibility of participants
Work closely with facilities staff as needed
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the lifeguard office and pool deck
Respond appropriately to emergencies by following established emergency action protocols
Attend monthly meetings and in-services. These generally occur on weekends.
Active Lifeguard Certification is required.
