Job Description

The Math Lab Assistant Tutor is an official math tutor for the Parsons Mathematics Assistance Center at UNC-Asheville. The assistant tutor is responsible to the day to day operations of the Math Lab including:

Greeting and assisting students entering the lab.

Tutoring students in precalculus, calculus I through III, and introductory statistics.

Performing light duties to ensure the lab operation is organized and welcoming.

The Assistant Tutor will provide support to the lead tutor but also manage the lab at other times. This can involve opening the lab in the morning and closing it properly at night.

The Math Lab requires responsible, focused tutors who are proficient in the above-mentioned subjects. They must also be open and empathetic to the various learning styles of students. Apart from working during the day the tutor must be available to work some evenings and Sunday afternoons.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred candidates have not only passed the calculus I through III sequence with good grades and be able to tutor these subjects to others. In addition, the preferred candidate should be proficient with introductory statistics. Candidates must have some managerial experience or willing to take a leadership role at certain times. They must be punctual, responsible, and willing to work some evenings and Sunday afternoons.
