Each one-week program offers deep immersion into an academic topic and fun activities.
Pre-College Assistant job description: During our two weeks of Pre-College Programs, (June 14-19 and 21-26), we will be hiring a group of Pre-College Assistants to assist with this program. Pre-College Assistants will be serving as a mentor to our participants. This includes living in community with them (staying in the same residence hall and eating meals with the participants), leading evening activities, and supervising/chaperoning them during the program - similar to a "camp counselor". Pre-College Assistants must be age 18+ by the start of employment. The Pre-College Assistants will play an important role in carrying out the mission of providing these students an enriching, enjoyable and comprehensive on-campus living experience. Pre-College Assistant responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Assist in the leadership and as a chaperone
- Conduct room preparations for Pre-College participants
- Key prep and management
- Being visible and available to participants
- Assist with check-in and check outs
- Leading hall meetings
- Assist with crisis and emergency management
- Rotating on-call phone for 24 hour availability
- Staying on-campus in the residence hall with Pre-College Program participants
- Other duties as assigned
Pre-College Assistants are ambassadors for UNC Asheville. Student Assistants are chosen for their leadership and communication skills, knowledge of our residence halls and policies, ability to problem solve efficiently, work professionally and independently, follow detailed instructions, have good follow-through, and anticipate the needs of our guests on campus. During this employment period, Pre-College Assistants cannot hold another job on or off campus without prior approval. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Compensation: - $1,400 stipend for the two week time period (averaging roughly 70+ hours of work each week).
